The thinking process of the mind works
in two ways. It allows us to maneuver through life by working with and
identifying our experiences through our senses and it functions in response to
sensations in the present moment as they are happening. The thinking process is
also what is used to figure out situations in the present moment such as when
we are working with something or just simply doing worldly things. Everything
outside of this can be explained as being a story. A story about the past or the
future. These are called stories because it is not real. They are memories and
fabrications.
When concentrated there will not be a story. The thinking process
continues to happen, also during meditation, and this is fine. We are not
trying to stop the mind from thinking. We are to learn how to catch our mental
activity when we are caught up in the story. If caught up in a story, we are
not meditating. This is all apart of the mental fixing that we should not be
doing when in meditation.
